I remember that in the early nineties it was next to impossible to get a home loan in India. I think the only company which gave out home loans was HDFC and the interest rate was a whopping 16%. Property prices at that time conformed to what people could actually afford as the house had to be either paid in full or you had to take out a loan from your provident fund.
Fast forward to 2000 and beyond. After the Indian rupee became fully convertible and the banking regulations were relaxed every bank or finance company started to make loans. The upshot of that is that everyone could buy a house and car through taking out loans. This of course created this huge demand for new housing from the middle class which translated into a steep increase in land and property prices.
This may not exactly be a total bubble as loans are there to stay. What is happening though is that home construction is going on at a rapid pace and at some point Indian cities and their suburbs may be overbuilt. At that point you would be stuck with your house and not be able to sell as is happening in the US. Of course some markets will correct but I donot think Bombay, Bangalore or Hyderabad will.
I'm a a total layman regarding such issues and I am just trying to reason this through.
Is is sad. All these NRIs are going to learn a very valuable lesson. Speculation is not a good strategy for investing. A lot learned that in the past few months here in USA. In a year we will be seeing the full blown post bubble correction in India. If one can rent an apartment for 15,000 why would one buy it for 50 lakhs. The interest alone on 50 lakhs is 50,000 every month. It is like buy and rent it and loose money. Instead why don't they deposit in a bank and get 50,000 every month:confused:

My question is what stops a donor from posting stuff in the Donors only forum in the open forum? Is IV going to ban them? What is IV planning on doing if it posted on another forum?
IMHO by creating a donors only forum IV is creating more divisions and problems than it can handle. There is already enough division in the legal immigrant community in IV and one more is definitely not going to help anyone. By all means designate someone as a donor but a seperate forum........

My attorney told me that it takes around a month to get ported (may be he is just saying in general). As I mentioned earlier My I-140 (EB2 one) shows EB3 priority date. I hope something will happen in a month or two.

hi i have come to the u.s. on a f2 visa and currently my spouse is doing her OPT.i applied for a driving licence in georgia and i was issued a learners permit based on my I94,visa and letter from social security office denying me a ssn.
i went to the same centre(decatur) for a road test and now they say that we cannot give you a licence because your visa says dependent for a student of wisconsin university,so you should go to wisconsin and get your licence.i went to another dmv centre and after verifying my docs. they let me take the road test and i cleared the test and they asked me to go to the counter to pay money , at that time the person in the counter again asked me for passpoert and i94 and he saw that university of wisconsin stuff on my visa and he said he will not issue a licence and i spoke to the supervisor and he says get a letter from INS ,i showed him my spouse opt card and showed him the words in the card which reads"eligible to work in u.s. upto ----").now he says that is your spouse opt card ,what autorisation do you have to stay in GA ?
has any one come across such a problem?is so kindly advice

What a bunch of idiots, i swear this is WORSE than ANY of our home countries. Like I told my friend yesterday, atleast if the USCIS call center was based in India, the answers would have been consistent. They may have all been Wrong, but atleast they would be consistent.

I have some questions?
1. Can you work for your wife and also get paid in check? or I will have to go for cash payment?
2. Can I have a second job in my wife's company and retain the original job?
3. Can I have a different occupation in my wife's company which is totally not related to my original job role? and then can I get paid in check or cash?

1. Yes you can open a LLC singly or jointly with your wife/friend/anyone.
2. You can start the LLC even when you are on H1B but it is better that you wait till you get your EAD to get oprationalized. reason very very conservative view is that you cannot even write a check for your company or deposit a check... but this is a very conservative view....
3. To open a LLC you can use an accountant ( if you have one, it will be cheaper by a couple of hundred dollars) or use agencies like www.legalzoom.com/legalzip/LLCs/llc_procedure.html .... I have used both in the past....
4. Intially you can just form LLC as single or joint partnership and then elect as S corporations for taxing.... I forget within which period it is to be done, if I correctly remember when you file your first tax return or within 6 months you need to elect as filing as single person entity( then it becomes like your personal income) or you could elect as S corp....
5. You will a tax id for the LLC, business license and other documents when you form a LLC, You will need to maintain book and tax records for 3 years... best to have it managed by an accountant
6. You/ your spouse can work for your LLC.... Some of you if you want to after 180 days change employers can move into your LLC and maintain that you are employed in same occupational duties for your own LLC...

I am one of those guys who entered US in a very late age (I am 35 now...) and haven't even started the Green Card process yet. I wonder everyday "if" and when the process gets started..how many years it would take to get GC (may be 5 to 6 years..correct me if I am wrong)...and after getting the GC..wait for another 5+ years to get Citizenship...I will be close to 50...ouch
Well, as of today I don't feel like applying for GC...I realized my dream of coming and working in US...now the plan is to spend 4 to 5 years, clear my debts (yeah......running into thousands of dollars)...make some money to live peacefully in India..thats it....then go back to India....
And its not just the family or friends...95% of my cousins and 90% of my friends are in US (trust me it is a large number)..except for parents and in-laws (and uncles, aunts)...every one is here...but I hardly get a chance to meet them...b'cos no one wants to take some time off to meet cousins/friends (unless you are in drivable distance)..I don't blame them (or me)..since we all want to save our PTO to visit India....
I just wish..if I can spin the time wheel back...I would never think of a foreign country....(even though I am new to US..I spent about 8 years abroad in other countries already)..
I don't feel like concluding..hence leaving this incomplete...

Seriously it is impossible to change anything with the back-dated 100k applications. The only thing that could be done is help the future immigrants in a much better fashion. The only solution I see is, apply this rule after 1/1/2006. By applying this rule to back-dated applications will only create more chaos. Why would anybody would want to change the line again, because it is a different situation now. I would'nt. If that is the case, then USCIS should withdraw all their approved out-of-line GCs during 2004, atleast the retrogression will not be this bad. The best idea would be to wait and see if the current bill makes it out to the president with all the amendments included. That should relieve some or most of the retrogression.

I think you are unnecessarily suspecting her posting. Retrogression kicked in Oct 2005 bulletin. So it is possible for her to apply in Feb 2005. I know for sure some people got their GC with similar priority dates. I think this whole immigration crap is turning everyone into cynical.
