Maybe few visas might get rejected because they would have tried to stay in USA permanently. Yes, you may apply for L1 visa extension using Form I-129, and L Supplement. Extensions of two years at a time may be allowed until you have been in the U.S. for a total of seven years if you are a manager or executive.

Hi Gurus,
I tried checking my I-485 status over phone. I called after hours. So it went to the automated message. Thought just to listen what the message says. It was something interesting. Thought to share with you. Do any of you have the same or similar experience?
07/02/2007 - Application Receipt Date in I-485 notice.
09/04/2007 - Application Notice Date in I-485 receipt.
08/01/2007 - Application Receipt date according to the Phone Status(Automated).
09/01/2007 - Application Receipt date according to the uscis.com website Status check.
Just curious about these variations as none of these dates are matching.

Not surprising, but surprising that Luis would admit it. And if this is the case (and I think it is), then the question is whether we wait until 2011 or later to push again or finally decide it's time to look at other strategies like piecemeal reform (pass DREAM, AgJobs, legal immigration reform now and deal with legalization later) or look at administrative actions like TPS or parole and a moratorium on deportations for people who would otherwise meet the requirements of a proposed legalization program.

The Ranking Member of the House Immigration Subcommittee would like to deport all Haitians so they can help rebuild their country. Yeah, I'm sure that's what's motivating this "compassionate" proposal. Wonkette, the often hilarious DC gossip blog, has nicknamed King The #1 A@#hole in Congress for just this sort of rhetoric. ABC News quotes King: "This sounds to me like open borders advocates exercising the Rahm Emanuel axiom: 'Never let a crisis go to waste,'" Rep. Steve King, R-Iowa, said in an e-mail message to ABCNews. "Illegal immigrants from Haiti have no reason to fear deportation, but if they are...

No more interim EAD at Infopass since Sept 2006.
If it's an emergency like loss of job offer etc. you can take a cover letter with your receipt notice to Infopass and they can fax it to the Service Center for expedited service. Alternatively you can fax it yourself.
The decision whether to expedite your case rests with the Service Center.
Also I would say hang on for a few days if possible. I got my EAD approval e-mail after 101 days since RD from NSC.

From the San Francisco Chronicle: A Concord man was sentenced on Friday to six months in prison and three years of supervised release, for making false statements on 11 applications for high-technology worker visas, United States Attorney Melinda Haag and Patrick Durkin, Special Agent In-Charge of the Diplomatic Security Service announced. Chennupati admitted that between April 1, 2008 and March 3, 2009, he submitted 11 foreign worker petitions to U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services that contained counterfeit job offer letters from the Gap Corporation, Wells Fargo Bank and Genentech. Chennupati also admitted that he falsely stated on the foreign worker...

Article by Frank Aquila of Bloomberg BusinessWeek who underscores several reasons why lifting the cap on H-1B petitions is essential for US Tech growth including the fact that "The U.S. Labor Dept. estimates that by 2014, 2 million high-tech jobs will go unfilled simply because the cap on H-1B visas has not been raised."
